NYCxDESIGN draws the people who decide what good design looks like in America: architects, artists, media, and the endlessly curious. That crowd can smell a sponsored booth on a busy block from a mile away. Lexus wanted a real seat at the table on craft, creativity, and culture, which meant adding something to the conversation rather than paying to stand next to it.
So we built a six-day Lexus pavilion in the heart of Times Square, designed to blur the lines between automotive design, art, fashion, technology, music, and hospitality. It behaved less like a showroom and more like a living program, turning the Lexus design philosophy into something guests could see, hear, taste, or make with their own hands.

Something new took center stage every day.
Artist Alex Alpert turned a Lexus IS 350 F SPORT into a canvas and drew on it live, working in his signature stream-of-consciousness style right in front of the crowd. Nearby, interactive screens rendered guests into portraits in that same hand, so watching the art became part of making it.

A peek behind studio doors.
Designers from CALTY, Toyota's North American studio, took the floor for candid talks on how a Lexus travels from sketch to street. Smaller sessions put design students in the room with them, close enough to ask the questions that usually stay inside HQ.

The program hit the pavement.
Movement was part of the program too. Lexus brought together HYROX and the Stryde Social Run Club for group workouts through Times Square, with wellness partners on hand to help everyone recover afterward.

Evenings changed the tempo.
Daily DJ sets gave the room a pulse, and designer Denise Fócil staged fashion performances that put movement and craft in the same frame as the cars. Design treated as culture, with a crowd that lingered well past the last talk.

The week's defining moment needed no introduction.
Days after its debut in Japan, the all-new Lexus TZ got a second unveiling live in Times Square, for an invite-only crowd of designers, artists, media, and tastemakers. A guest DJ kept the energy up while the TZ won the room over with its futuristic lines, three-row space, and a gorgeous Shaded Ivy finish.
The best event in NYC. No, really.
According to advanced location data, the pavilion ranked as the #1 event space in NYC for the month of May, drawing more than 7,100 visitors who stayed an average of 67 minutes. That is a long time to spend with a car brand, and with this much built into the programming, it is no wonder people stuck around. Across social, the week pulled 57M in potential reach, 2.1M impressions, 27.1K engagements, and $5.7M in earned media value. That is what happens when a brand joins the culture instead of renting space near it.
